Background
The main purpose of this project is to learn the basics of shoe making and applying the concept of upcycling in footwear design.
Also aiming to reduce the waste that the fashion industry creates by giving textiles a second life.
Process
The initial phase of the project involved sourcing old shoes and garments from various channels, including donations and thrift stores. Once collected, they are carefully separated and cleaned.
A pair of shoes from upcycled shoe components such as, soles, uppers, linings, and tongues. The biggest outcomes were to learn how to create patterns, source materials, create orthographic views, and assemble a shoe from scratch.
Outcome
Once the design and pattern are finalized, the chosen fabrics from old running shoes and garments are prepared for use in crafting the new lifestyle shoes.
The finished upcycled shoes are thoughtfully packaged using eco-friendly materials. The project adheres to sustainable packaging practices to minimize environmental impact.
